Hello, this is my first attempt at posting in the chat room. I am 59 years old. I am disabled, having had 17 surgeries in 14 years. I still face a variety of daunting medical issues. My wife died suddenly, nearly three months ago.

I am a Presidential Historian.  I have written and lectured on the presidents, extensively, in my local area.  Ironically, my wife died, while she was working on a 3-D puzzle of the White House for me.  I had gone to a meeting, and when I returned, I found her.

Sorry for you loss. I know the emptiness, the impotence, the overwhelming desperation you feel. All I can say that only the hope faith brings helps in finding the courage to go on another day....so, put yourself in the hands of God, expect to reunite with your lost loved ones in another plane beyond our limited understanding, and live another day. Tomorrow, repeat.

Thank you.  I will try that.  I was, also, thinking about doing an article on the presidents, who lost their wives.  There were 15, altogether.  Maybe, if I can ascertain, how they coped, it would help me. I've been re-watching the 1953 movie 'The President's Lady' starring Charlton Heston and Susan Hayward, as Andrew and Rachel Jackson.  Jackson, always, blamed his political opponents, for his wife's death, due to the scandalmongering, dirty mudslinging, that had occurred during his 1828 campaign.

Interesting point Joe. There is a brotherhood among those of us who have lost close loved ones, especially Ina sudden manner. You are not alone, remember that. And time will not ease the pain, but will let you learn to live with the new reality, the new you in such a way that will feel like a new normal of sorts. In any case, keep your chin up, be grateful for the good times your wife gave you, relive them in your heart which will let you feel her presence, which is definitely real, and never lose faith and hope. I would love to read your work on the presidents who lost their wives and how they coped with it. I highly recommend you read "a grief observed" by C.S. Lewis and "man and the search of meaning" by Viktor Frankl. I promise they will help get you through these turbulent times.

I'm just starting research on the presidents' who have lost their wives.  Seven months ago, I did an article about Vice-Presidents who lost children, while they were in office (like Joe Biden's son, who died, the end of May 2015.

I know. Watch Stephen Colbert's interview with Biden in YouTube. Powerful and empowering.

My Fathers Loss

Many years ago, I lost my father after his battle with colon cancer that later spread to his bones. The grief stayed with me longer than I expected. Ambrosia Behavioral Health helped me work through that loss, understand my emotions, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. https://www.ambrosiatc.comSee More

Traumatic loss of an only child

I started this group so that people who have lost their only child or the only child that remained, as in my case, could come together because I believe people that did have a child or children who now have none have special issues.
