Hi Jackie,
My heart goes out to you...my 33 year old daughter was killed in a senseless, tragic accident on Memorial Day of this year. She had celebrated her birthday on May 10, which fell on Mother's Day this year.
Try not to put to much pressure on yourself about "celebrating" his birthday. Acknowledge and recall the day of his birth but don't let it put you into a tailspin. Think of all the sweet memories on this day; maybe make a donation to a charity he may have supported...my daughter loved animals, especially dogs, so my friends and family donate to those causes. Did Nate support any charities?
If you are up to it, maybe you can ask his friends and your family to share, in writing, a memory of Nate. I have found that what is right for me may not be right for another mom so these are just suggestions. Please let us know how you are doing.
Take care of yourself and my prayers are with you during this tough month.
Sincerely,
Laura
wow the loss of a child is the hardest thing that a parent can go through i can only imagine what you are going through as you grieve the loss of your little boy. Celebrate his birthday read poems and have a family get together in his memory.

My son Garrick's 19th Birthday was October 22nd. He passed away from Cardiac Arrest brought on by an Asthma Attack. I honestly did not think I would survive his birthday and had been dreading it for months. Our family went to Disney Land the week of his birthday as that was one of his favorite places. This trip had been planned for over a year we decided to go for him. Originally we were going to write letters and put them in a bottle and throw them into the ocean while we were in California but when it came down to it I decided to keep the letters as they were so raw and emotional I wanted to keep those emotions so I have then in bottles in his room. We ended up signing ballons and letting those go at different place in Knotts Berry Farm by his favorite rides. Our group got together and said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARRICK" which was one of the hardest things I have had to do since this nightmare began. Since I was not at home on his birthday I had one of his friends put an artifical rose up on his head stone each day we were gone and on the 22nd she took up a happy birthday banner with some ballons. She took a picture and sent it to me. That day was so rough and now I am looking at our first Thanksgiving without Garrick and his 1 year Angelversary on December 5th.
This nightmare is one I would not wish on anyone and I do not know how I survive each day.
I will be thinking of you and just know how ever you want to celebrate his birthday is perfect. ALSO I AGREE OCTOBER IS A VERY TOUGH MONTH!!!
MISTI.
Its really hard time for parents who lost their child. Loss of child is very painful for parents. Parents have many hopes from their parents. My friend lost her child last year and it was so bad experience for her. I pray to God for you. Sympathy Verse
