I just joined the group and am a 79 year old widower who lost his wife 10 months ago. After attending Hospice one-on-one counseling as well as group counseling (they did help me at the time), I sometimes feel like I'm slipping back into deep sadness and depression at times. I can't make it through a whole day without falling apart a few times. After 54 years of marriage, it's very hard to live alone. I notice there doesn't seem to be a group for older widowed people so I'm entering my blog here. Is anyone going through the same feeling of losing ground that I am?

My wife's name was Marlene. When Hospice accepted me as a volunteer, they assigned me to work the desk with a lady whose name was Marlene. I told them there was no way I could sit there and talk to someone with the same name as my wife so they changed my day. I'm going to close this out for the day and watch some TV. That seems to be my escape for getting my mind off the problems. I don't know if that works for you but everyone is different.

Enjoy what's left of the weekend Panni.

You are wonderful Panni...............it's nice to have someone you can tell your problems to and who is in the same boat you are in. My hat is off to you because you have to work along with raising your kids and it has to be very hard when you just don't feel like going to work. I volunteer at Hospice one day a week and that gets me out and around people along with giving me a chance to pay back a little for being there for my wife and then for my counseling. You are in my thoughts as we both continue down this long and endless road.My very best wishes......Bob

Panni,

Thanks for being the 1st to comment. I asked about another group counseling session and they feel I would just be repeating the same class projects but with a different group that may not be as acceptable to everyone. We did have a good group that has stayed together and we meet for lunch every month. It helps but it's only for a couple of hours and then back in the dumps again. I guess all we can do is hang on and hope time will do its thing. At my age, I doubt that I have enough time left for the deep sadness to ease off. I'm sorry for your loss too Panni and we certainly have a lot of company on this site don't we? I appreciate you taking the time to write and please feel free to contact me whenever you need to release some feelings. Your friend in sadness.......Bob

So I am almost done with cleaning my grandmas sewing room that wasn’t touched in 10 years because of all the mess, but now that she passed away 2 days ago, I don’t know if I should continue, I wanna finish what I started but I don’t know what to do, my grandpa is still alive and I don’t want to leave this burden on him.See More
