Profile Information

About Me:
I am a 57yr. old married woman with 2 adult sons, ages 39 and 20. I've been a RN for 25 years, specialties are Neonatal ICU, and Labor and Delivery. I have 8 siblings, 9th sibling died of breast cancer in 2012. There were 10 of us, 9 girls and one boy. Mom had another boy (would have been 11), her 4th child, who passed away at 1 1/2 yrs. old, from pneumonia. We are somewhat close, but I don't see them often as I live in another state, Arkansas. Half my siblings live in New Orleans, La. (my home state), and the other half live in Houston, TX. I am mom's 7th child. Everytime I think about mom I tear-up, or cry.
About my Loss:
My mom passed away on Friday, August 13, 2021. Broke our hearts. I'm still not sure of the exact cause of death. She had multiple health issues, ie, large inoperable Aortic Aneurysm, Kidney failure, stomach cancer, and arthritis. We were told to not be concerned with the stomach cancer b/c it was encapsulated, not aggressive, and small. She complained of pain due to the arthritis. She ultimately stopped eating, her pain increased, was brought to the hospital, her breathing became shallow, and she expired. I purchased a plane ticket to arrive in New Orleans on Saturday, and she passed away on Friday. I was so upset b/c I thought once they gave her fluids and medication, she would be relieved of her pain and ultimately improve.... I was NOT expecting her to pass away at that time. I tend to believe that her cancer was more severe than what we were told. My mom's family have a history of holding back medical information because they don't like to "worry" everyone. Mom's sister had Cancer, did not tell anyone...by the time we all found out about it, she passed away 2 weeks later. I'm having severe regrets of not taking a leave of absence from work, and going to New Orleans to help take care of my mom. I visited her twice this year. Last visit was on Mother's day... She looked ill to me at that time, but she blamed it on her arthritis.

My mom died 4 months ago

My mom had pulmonary fibrosis. She was sick for a few years. It was funny how when my grandmother smoked, my mom would always say-I’m gonna die from second hand smoke. My mom never smoked. She died from lung disease. Ironic.I was fine at the funeral. Planning. Talking to everyone. I thought u handled it great. Now 4 months later, I’m a mess. Some days I’m perfectly fine, but others I can’t walk down the street without crying. I keep thinking that I haven’t talked to her in a while & I…See More
