About Me:
41 y/o female. Never married, no kids
About my Loss:
My dad became an alcoholic when he was 50 and I was 22. I lived with him as an active alcoholic (and my mom) until I was 34. Long story short, he ultimately died very unexpectedly and suddenly of a pulmonary embolism from surgery to amputate his right leg. His leg needed amputating due to his alcoholism. Had he lived, eventually his other would have also needed to be amputated. If other effects from the alcoholism didn't kill him first.

He became a member of AA after his first trip of many to detox and rehab shortly after his initial "incident" and hospitalization due to being drunk. He had short periods of sobriety during his 14 years in AA. The longest period of sobriety being 6 months. Other than that, his sober periods only lasted at most a few weeks.

My mom is a psychologist who, at the beginning, had some knowledge and patients with addiction issues. We both joined ALANON soon after my dad's first trip to rehab. We stayed members for 12 years.

I have learned that my grief is much different from those that lost loved ones to things other than addiction. I am looking to connect with people who have lost loved ones with addiction.

Grandma sewing room
