About Me:
That's a good question. Who am I? It seems like life always gets in the way of who I want to be and who I am. I work in retail sales, although I aspire to be a novelist (fiction). Struggling and lost would be the best way to describe my current state. I am 25, engaged to a wonderful man, and hoping to heal some of my emotional wounds so as to open a new happy chapter in my life.
About my Loss:
I lost my mom on June 11, 2010. She was 62 years old. My mom was beloved by her patients and colleagues as a nurse practitioner in vascular radiology at Duke Medical Center. She was active in social ministry at the Chapel of the Cross, founded a ladies book group, and was a patron of the Nasher Museum of Art. She enjoyed gardening, walking, reading, cooking, painting, and entertaining friends. She was a loving mother to me and my older brother: sewing us Halloween costumes from scratch, coaxing us to study music, teaching us to bake, caring for our little cat, Mokie, and making us photo albums of special memories.
My mom was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in May 2008 and had a crainiotomy followed by radiation and chemotherapy. She bravely battled cancer for two years before treatments stopped working. She was cared for at home by my brother and I, with help from the local hospice and close family friends.

A SUMMER PASTIME

"On long summer days when I'm left all alone, I lie on the cool velvet grass; and watch the white clouds with their linings of gold go floating so peacefully past.

The clouds look like pillows delightfully soft, fluffed by the angels above; I watch the clouds dancing with sunbeams so bright, these white downy pillows I love.

I'll build a tall ladder and climb up to heaven and there on a cloud I will lie, and sleep there forever in a haven of peace, just me and the clouds and the sky."

-Written by Rachel Lynn Schuler's mom

I wanted to save this to read when I am feeling blue. It makes me think of my mom floating happily on a cloud watching down on me.

*****************************

Let me come in where you are weeping, friend,
And let me take your hand.
I, who have known a sorrow such as yours, can understand.
Let me come in--I would be very still beside you in your grief;
I would not bid you cease your weeping, friend,
Tears bring relief. Let me come in--and hold your hand,
For I have known a sorrow such as yours, And understand.

My Fathers Loss

Many years ago, I lost my father after his battle with colon cancer that later spread to his bones. The grief stayed with me longer than I expected. Ambrosia Behavioral Health helped me work through that loss, understand my emotions, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. https://www.ambrosiatc.comSee More

Traumatic loss of an only child

I started this group so that people who have lost their only child or the only child that remained, as in my case, could come together because I believe people that did have a child or children who now have none have special issues.

Loss of a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide

If you have lost a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide please share your story or feelings here. Share the love and beauty of the one you lost. Losing someone any of these ways is not natural and can be hard to understand and ask why? I lost my Mother to an overdose 9 years ago. She also suffered from major depression. Her doctor got her hooked on pain medication and she was addicted most of my life. These doctors who were suppose to help her ended up killing her in the end. I also…See More
