Jorgie--the pain factor depends on where you get the tattoo. I have one on my shoulder, and while it was a bit painful at the beginning, it kind of numbed out after awhile. I guess it could be compared to a sunburn. I am going to get a memorial tattoo for my mom as well--an image of her favorite flower paired with her handwriting. What are you thinking of?

Lisa, I am so very sorry to learn of your loss. I am not sure where you are, but I've heard good things about tattoo artist Holly Ellis at Idle Hand in San Francisco. She is known for her portraiture. The website is idlehandsf.com.

This is a pic of my son, Andrew, and I when he was 5 years old.  He was killed in a crash 11-7-11, 8 weeks before his 10th birthday.  I have a hibiscus flower surrounded with my kids' names around it tattooed on my back, I got it in 2010. Andrew LOVED it! I have a memorial tattoo in mind, Andrew's photo chosen, what I want as far as words, however, I cannot find a tattoo artist who does portraiture to my liking.

Can anyone recommend someone?  I don't care where I have to travel to in order to get this tattoo.  It is EXTREMELY important to me that Andrew's face be inked as perfectly as I photographed him.

Thank you for any comments.  -L

This is a portrait of my son- I will post a more recent one, this was taken the day the tattoo was done and is swollen. Kamakani is under his portrait, it means "the wind" in Hawaiian. It was his middle name, miss him more than words.

My Father passed away in 2005 at the age of 44.  I turned 18 a few months later... My Mother bought me a beautiful diamond cross necklace that Christmas.  So for my first tattoo, I got "Dad," and the cross my Mom got me.  Unfortunately, my Mother passed away unexpectedly in 2010 at the age of 50, so I had "Mom" added this past spring.  I love this tattoo! I miss you Mom and Dad!
