- 43 year old male Englishman living in New York State for the last 14 years.
- About my Loss:
- My wife of 14 years died Jun 30th 2011. She had been chronically ill with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis since about a year before I met her. As life progressed she became sicker, developing nerve conditions, COPD and rheumatoid lung, diabetes and several other conditions. Given this her death was not a surprise, but for all that people think that makes it easier it doesn't.

My Fathers Loss

Traumatic loss of an only child
I started this group so that people who have lost their only child or the only child that remained, as in my case, could come together because I believe people that did have a child or children who now have none have special issues.
Loss of a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide
If you have lost a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide please share your story or feelings here. Share the love and beauty of the one you lost. Hi Stephen,
I feel for and with you now. My brother died this past March, and it was not a surprise either. It perhaps lessens the traumatic shock aspect of sudden deaths, but all the sadness, heaviness, lack of energy for life, are the same, I think.
I hope you can find a way to make it through these next days, weeks, months, etc. I'm one that believes that "time" itself, doesn't do the trick. I think some ritualized grieving practices helps, whatever they may be for you. My brother's ashes are in another country, and I have no cemetery to visit, but I do other things - listen to music, look at his pictures, just take out some time to be with him again. This helps me.
