About Me:
I am a 52 year old mother who lost the yougest of her three children. He was only 25. Icalled him Nathaniel because it means a gift from God. They say it was an overdose that he died of. They say April 8th, 2009. But I say April 7th 2009.
About my Loss:
I would give anything in the wqrld to have been with him holding him in my arms that night. Nathan had a hard time struggling with life, love, and alcohol and drugs but he was still my gift from God. I feel very guilty over his death like I could have changed that last day or that last week or the last fights or especially the last things I said. It was five months ago and it feels like its even getting more painful every second of every day. There's many times that I don't want to be without him.

Jackie, I am so sorry for your loss; words of condolences are so inadequate when we lose a child.
We all share the bond of grief on this website and after the tragic death of my 33 daughter daughter (and only child) I found compassion and understanding with the other members.
Like you there are so many times I feel I just want to be with her...
My experience with this "thing called grief" is that it gets worse before it gets better and others have told me it never really leaves us, we just learn to cope with it as the days go on. (my daughter was killed in a tragic accident on Memorial Day of this year)
Writing about my daughter has really helped me cope and sharing with the other members seems to help.
Take care.
Sincerely,
Laura

My Fathers Loss

Many years ago, I lost my father after his battle with colon cancer that later spread to his bones. The grief stayed with me longer than I expected. Ambrosia Behavioral Health helped me work through that loss, understand my emotions, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. https://www.ambrosiatc.comSee More

Traumatic loss of an only child

I started this group so that people who have lost their only child or the only child that remained, as in my case, could come together because I believe people that did have a child or children who now have none have special issues.

Loss of a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide

If you have lost a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide please share your story or feelings here. Share the love and beauty of the one you lost. Losing someone any of these ways is not natural and can be hard to understand and ask why? I lost my Mother to an overdose 9 years ago. She also suffered from major depression. Her doctor got her hooked on pain medication and she was addicted most of my life. These doctors who were suppose to help her ended up killing her in the end. I also…See More
