I just read that article,'rethinking grief' and I think she is right about people not going through five lengthy separate stages.  Maybe some go through them all, but I don't believe we all go through all five.  I do believe some griefs are longer and harder than others.  It all has to do with what the relationship was to the person that died.  Not just the relationship as a family member or close friend, but also the strength of the relationship we had with the person.

I disagree where she states that 'most people grieve pretty quickly, and in their own way' if she means our grief ends quickly, and the statement that we are 'more quickly ready to move on with life'.  I'm sure we would all like to move on with life, but I don't believe we can do it quickly.  And I don't think anything has dictated to me how I should feel.  I can't control how I feel most of the time when it comes to the loss of my son.

I don't know what else to say or if that is what you wanted to know.  I feel like I'm rambling.  Sorry.

My Fathers Loss

Many years ago, I lost my father after his battle with colon cancer that later spread to his bones. The grief stayed with me longer than I expected. Ambrosia Behavioral Health helped me work through that loss, understand my emotions, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. https://www.ambrosiatc.comSee More
