About my Loss:
My dad thought he was having a stoke due to tingling in his left hand. He was also vomiting and having trouble breathing. He was diagnosed with a pinched nerve and pneumonia and sent home. Hours later he could barely breathe, talk or walk. After going back to the hospital he was diagnosed with an extremely rare condition called Gillian Barre Syndrome. Within 24-hours of his first symptoms he was paralyzed from the neck down, on a ventilator and in intensive care. By the next day he could only move his eyes and was placed in a medical induced coma until the special medication needed could be flown in. Over the next 2 weeks, my dads blood pressure went up and down, as well as his temperature. We were told there was an infection some where but they couldn't find it. Then they discovered a blood clot in his leg and then his lung. Finally out of now where after 2 weeks of no response my dad began shaking his head "yes" and "no" and responding to questions. We knew he had been able to hear us talking to him the past 2 weeks, understood what was going on, and was starting to regain some movement. There was also unexplained bleeding from his treach that was building up in his throat and they could not figure out where the blood was coming from. On Sunday, October 24, 2010 almost 2 weeks to the exact time he was admitted to the hospital my dad passed away from a blood clot as a result of Gillian Barre Syndrome. He was 51 years old and had never been sick or hospitalized before 10-10-10.

My Fathers Loss

Many years ago, I lost my father after his battle with colon cancer that later spread to his bones. The grief stayed with me longer than I expected. Ambrosia Behavioral Health helped me work through that loss, understand my emotions, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. https://www.ambrosiatc.comSee More
