- About Me:
- I'm a 32 year old woman who is in a commited relationship and looking forward to start a family of my own. I currently work in social services and am working on finishing my master degree in mental health counseling.
- About my Loss:
- My father passed away in 1997, about two weeks before my high school graduation. I was the typical Daddy's Girl. My father had a terminal illness called Good Pasteur's disease. A blood disease that causes kidney failure. I never really knew my dad was sick until I was able to realize that he took a lot of medication before we went to bed each night. I think I was about ten, when he told me he was sick. It was hard for me to understand that he was sick, when he never looked sick. But as the next five years went on, the kidney that my dad recieved from his sister started to fail and he had to start dialysis again. He would not allow me to be tested to donate because he feared that I would have kidney issues in my future. My dad never really let us know how serious his condition was getting, he did not want us to worry. Until we found him unresponsive and rushed him to the hospital is when we really knew that he was never going to get better. This was about one week before he passed away. Mind you before this episode, he was out and about the community and running dialysis 3 times a week. We were lucky that we were able to bring him home to die (this was his wish) But we weren't so lucky when we had to plan the funeral, because we had no idea what he wanted besides having a military burial.
