- About Me:
- Hi....I am a 60 year old woman who lives in upstate New York in a small rural town. I have one son who is now divorced and lives nearby and struggling to make a new start. I also have 3 grown stepchildren and 4 almost grown step-grandchildren who all live many miles from me. I have been blessed to have them all in my life. My older sister and younger nieces also live in my town.
- About my Loss:
- I lost my husband/best friend to AML...an acute,aggressive Leukemia. We were married for 33 years. In 2007 I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia which we were dealing with together until Oct/2013 when he was diagnosed with something so much worse. He suffered through a year of chemo, had a stem cell transplant... which was supposedly successful...then died due to major complications from all the drugs he was given during the entire process. He was turned into a vegetable who could no longer function. He lost his ability to walk...feed himself...control his bowels. The one thing he could control was how he would die. I took him home from the medical center with Hospice where he proceeded to starve himself to death. It took three weeks for this strong magnificent man to fade away, but on October 1st 2014, almost one year from when the nightmare began, he took his last breath. He did it on his terms, with me right beside him as I've always been.
