About Me:
Not really sure what to tell you. I'm a college student majoring in psychology/ social work.
About my Loss:
I lost my mother a year ago. I've had to deal with the death of loved ones and friends in the past, yet my mothers sudden death has taken an extrodinary toll on me. She was 42 and passed away in her sleep. We never knew she was sick. For the past year I have struggled with the grief and turned to drugs and alcohol in some sort of vain attempt to dull the pain. I'm looking for some sort of advice because I'm out of ideas and at the end of my rope.

Lance, I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. We all share the common bond of grief on this website so my advice to you is based on my personal experience after the death of my 33 year old daughter in May of this year.
This website is a great start. We all grieve differently and there is no time table for grieving. Read some of the other posts and you will find yourself in them; I know I did! I felt like an alien, that no one could know my pain, but after reading and sharing here I knew I was not alone and that what such a relief. I am also under the care of my physician, a behavioral therapist and will be seeing a psychiatrist in the near future.
If you have not done so please seek medical advice and/or spiritual counsel. Do you have a priest, pastor, or some other member of the clergy you can talk with?
When you feel like you can, share a little about your mom with us and if you like, post a photo of her. I can say I really have found that sharing with others has helped me a great deal.
Also, I am located here in San Antonio and can pass on resources to you if you would like, just let me know.
