- About Me:
- I'm 32 years old, happily married and excited for our future growing family. We have to 2 dogs that we love dearly. My husband and I are surrounded my an amazing family and supportive friends. I'm grateful for each day of my life.
- About my Loss:
- My father died in October of 2015 from alcohol related cirrhosis of the liver. He was the most amazing father any daughter could ask for. He abused alcohol but he was what you would call a functioning alcoholic. He was never mean, never hurtful, never abusive. If it wasn't for his death by cirrhosis, you would have never known my father was an alcoholic...I guess that's where I suffer. I'm not mad at him, I never hated him. My father was always there and active in every aspect of my life. He was an amazing husband, brother, cousin, uncle and grandfather. He was the type of man that would take his shirt right of him to give to a stranger that needed it. He was humble and kind.
I'm mad because the disease killed him. I'm mad because he couldn't stop drinking even after knowing that it was killing him.
Although my healing process has moved in a forward path, I still suffer from nightmares of my dad. I've been to support groups, practice mediation and yoga, and I even facilitate a grief support group now for teens. I'm struggling to find someone in my position. I have friends who've lost their parents at my age and my support group has been a big help although, I guess I'm searching for someone how has similar struggles that I have.
