About Me:
Hello I am 35 years old married to a wonderful man with 2 children and 1 on the way. I work full time as a Pediatric Emergency Room nurse and the rest of my time is spent with my family. I consider myself a private person. Other than a few acquaintances at work I pretty much keep to my family. We have a couple that we see every now and then and I consider them our best friends. I decided to join this community because I recently lost my mother at a young age. I can't seem to pick myself up and move on. I feel lost without her in my life.
About my Loss:
My mother was always deathly afraid of going to the doctor and dentist. In fact I can only remember her seeking medical help when she needed her gallbladder out about 10 years ago. I think she was very afraid because she lost her father when she was 16 years old to Colon Cancer. He was diagnosed and died in 6 months. Then her mother died in her 60s and she also suffered from several medical problems such as kidney failure and seizures. My grandmother and I were very close. My mother was at work one day when one of her co workers noticed that she didn't look like herself. She was very tired and was caught falling asleep at her computer. She went home early that day which is amazing to me because in 30 years of her being a nurse I think she called in like 5 times and those were because her grandchildren were born. After a few days of feeling lethargic I finally convinced my mother to go to the doctor. He ordered blood work and a CT scan because he noticed that her liver was enlarged. Well turns out the doctor diagnosed her with stage 4 colorectal cancer with severe metastasis. The cancer was everywhere. It spread to her peritoneum, pancreas, liver, uterus, ovaries. She had multiple masses on her liver. We tried to get her to Sloan Kettering to hear her prognosis although it our minds we already knew. She rapidly declined over the next week and I knew it would only be a few days. She became toxic because her liver failed and incoherent. She died at home with the comforts of hospice but mostly myself and her other 2 daughters took care of her. She died the day after her 65th birthday. From diagnoses to her death was only 12 short days. Thats all I had to say good bye to her. She died on October 7, 2014.
