About Me:
I am a 41 year old hospital employee.
About my Loss:
It was our 13th year together and we had planned a trip to Gatlinburg,Tnx. All of that began to change in January 2006. He complained about some discomfort in his abdominal region, so we went to a walk-in clinic. The doctor prescribes antibiotics and a diet, A week went by and his condition got worse.A rash appeared on his abdomin and his doctor said it indicated access water weight. More pills, a cream, and circulation socks, and sent him home.We went back to the clinic several times that week. His doctor stated she was an admitting doctor at the local hospital and promised to admitt him, then would send him home. On Monday of the 3rd week his brother spent the night with him so that I could go to work at a local restaraunt. Two hours into my shift I got an emergency call from his brother. My better half was taken to the emergency room. I ran there as fast as I could. I was take back to the room he was in. When he saw me he reached up and his heart rate went from 140 to 186. I grabbed an attending physician by the collar and pointed out a serious problem. The physician called a heart specialist and Will was admitted. He was initially diagnosed with congestive heart failure. While in cardiac care, his colon ruptured. He was running a temperature of 106 when they rushed him into surgery with a less than 15% chance of survival. Will was in an induced coma for two months. When his condition showed some improvement, they began to wake him up. Everything looked hopeful, until he contracted septis. A week before he passed, Will appeared to be beating septis, but further test showed that it was spreading. On May 5, 2006 I received the worst call of my life. He took a turn for the worse and a decision had to be made. Without life support, Will had a 0% chance of survival. If left on life support, he would be in a permanent vegetative state. I knew he didn't want to live like that.I prayed that his family would be able to see him one last time, and they did. Everyone got how they felt. Will took his last breath at 2:30 a.m. May 6, 2006
