About Me:
I am from South Africa - not a youngster anymore, being 64.
Although my mother tongue not being English, I trust that I'll make myself understood.
About my Loss:
I lost my wife of just short of 44 years - My Margaret.
We were sweethearts since ages 12 and 11, married when we were still kids - I 19 and she 18.
I have many tales I can share about My Margaret and me but in a nutshell:
We were "joint-by-the-hip" and did everything together - we were very active backpack hikers and have done 62 long hikes together.
On 13 September 2013, we were ready and already at the start of an ultra walk of 301 km(180 miles) when I decided to cancel because, all was not OK with My Margaret, my iron lady. We rushed home 1000 km away and immediately took her to hospital - from the outset, it was very clear that something was wrong, very wrong.
Soon she was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which already have spread to the liver - terminal. To say that we were devastated, is an extreme understatement - shattered.
My Margaret suffered beyond what I can put put into words and reached the end of her lifeline, in the early hours of 7 February 2014.
Since her passing, I am in this very strange "landscape" - one I do not know and do not care to know - the void in my life, is just too big, to fill with anything.
It is said that, time heals etc etc but - I don't believe that - I just cannot see that. This grieving has a mind of its own but I'm "hanging on" - if only it is to honor my promise to My Margaret that "I will be OK" - I'm not "OK" yet and not sure whether I will ever be, but I will take one step at a time, one day at a time - my precious memories of our life together, keeps me going and - I'm so GRATEFUL that I can honestly say, about what we had together and the life we shared "NO REGRETS"
As I said, there are many, many more to tell, but I will suffice with the above.

My mom died 4 months ago

My mom had pulmonary fibrosis. She was sick for a few years. It was funny how when my grandmother smoked, my mom would always say-I’m gonna die from second hand smoke. My mom never smoked. She died from lung disease. Ironic.I was fine at the funeral. Planning. Talking to everyone. I thought u handled it great. Now 4 months later, I’m a mess. Some days I’m perfectly fine, but others I can’t walk down the street without crying. I keep thinking that I haven’t talked to her in a while & I…See More
