We learn so much about ourselves on the road to recovery after loss.  Not all of it is good, but all of it is important.  I don't think there is a more important lesson that the souls can teach us, than to learn how to forgive ourselves for whatever we have done to ourselves and those around us because we are in pain.  We can't hope to move on to a perfect world if can't see the importance of setting ourselves free from guilt, from anger and from pain.  To forgive ourselves is to fix the soul, and lighten the load here just enough to be able to continue our journey of hope. – George Anderson

Oh, I thought you wrote that!  I had just heard that and I believe it is true but its easier said than done; the pain seems to blind me sometimes and I don't give a rat's &*( about the "big picture".  It just hurts so much and I miss him so much.

Maura,

I know how you feel. I have my gut wrenching moments still. My mom passed June 26, 2011. She was my only parent. I miss her so very much. The thing that keeps me sane is knowing where she now is. This world we are now living in is so full of so much negative. My mom suffered so much in her life at the hands of others. Then the cancer took her. My life has been so full of the same. I have decided after watching mom suffer and pass on to the next world - I am going to make my life count for something. I keep my pain to myself. I have a good friend experiencing her mothers being ill and declining and I just try and be there for her. Because I know what is coming. Love you girl - Sue

Your thoughts are comforting to know we are all in the same boat and to survive and make a good life is what they would want, as would we if the roles were reversed.

My Fathers Loss

Many years ago, I lost my father after his battle with colon cancer that later spread to his bones. The grief stayed with me longer than I expected. Ambrosia Behavioral Health helped me work through that loss, understand my emotions, and find healthier ways to cope and move forward. https://www.ambrosiatc.comSee More

Traumatic loss of an only child

I started this group so that people who have lost their only child or the only child that remained, as in my case, could come together because I believe people that did have a child or children who now have none have special issues.
