I am a father of 4 wonderful children that I love with all my heart. They are the reason for life at this stage of my life. I live with my wife, Kate, the step-mother to my children. I am 49 years old and have a career in Social Work where I have worked for the last 18 years. I am very family and friend oriented. I have 4 bff's (men) who live close and far and are my rocks as a Dad, husband, social worker and friend. I am a spiritual person and attend a local church with my wife Kate. My children range in age from 18 to 22 years old.
About my Loss:
On April 5th, 2010 my oldest daughter, Brittany Marie Joy Mitchell died suddenly from what appears to be meningitis. She was a healthy, active and fit person at the time with symptoms of what appeared to be a flu or cold. She lived in a large city (Vancouver, BC) that is a 5 hour drive from Kelowna. She was found "asleep" by her boyfriend at 12:30 am after he returned from his shift at work. She had died sometime in the late afternoon, not long after he left to go to work. She had laid down to rest and hopefully feel better so they could spend some time together when he finished his shift. We were told by the Police the next morning as they had to track us down (Britt's boyfriend did not have our names or contact info as they had only been dating for 1 month).
My heart goes out to you Darren. My daughter (33 years young and my only child) died in a senseless, tragic accident in Alaska where she lived. I live in Texas. It happened one year ago yesterday...
This website was a godsend for me. Share as much or as little information as you wish. Please consider posting some photos of Brittany. When I posted pictures of my daughter it was in a sense part of my healing process.
Take care.
