Has anyone who has a lost an adult child been to any support group meetings?  I have signed up for one, and it starts on Monday, August 23.  I'm nervous about going.  I'm not that comfortable talking to a group.  I know this will be hard, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience and if so, did you find it comforting for yourself?  Thanks for reading this.  I look forward to anyone who would like to share their experience.

God bless you all,
Pam Brooks

Hi Pam...my heart goes out to you, my sincerest condolences on the loss of your daughter. My 33 year old daughter was killed in an accident on May 25, 2009 so I know and understand how you feel. I have no experience with group meetings by choice. My help has come from this website, my psychiatrist and behavioural therapist. Your grief is very new, so still very painful. While it has been over a year for me the grief remains...I just sort of manage it daily, day in and day out. I have come to believe I will grieve until the day I die...I miss my daughter so much! She was my only child and there were no grandchildren...
We all grieve differently and in our own time. Do what you feel works for you. There are no rules for grieving.
Take care and let us know how you do at the group meeting.
Laura
Thank you, Laura for your response. I have no other children either, but she did leave my grandchildren. I've been reading a number of books, and some have helped, but I can tell from others that I'm not ready to what they are suggesting. I pray this group will help me and I will certainly let you know how it's going. Thank you again.

Pam

Pam I lost an adult child , I would love to write to you ...My son died March 24, 2012....my email address is Lynrose1546@aol.com

Hi Pam and laura,
I just started a group called "Traumatic loss of an only child" and I would sure love for you both to join if you would like.
I dont have any experience with a support group setting, I dont think it would be right for me... I would feel weird talking and crying infront of people that dont know me or why son.
I would love for you to add me as a friend Pam.
Hi Jodi,

I somehow missed your post. Thank you for asking me to join your group. Brittany was my only child and I attended the support group meetings 2 times. I had no idea what it would be like, but I learned quickly on that second visit that I was not ready to go back to that horrible night when I was told she had passed away. I could not articulate it. I began hyperventilating and then crying. I just couldn't handle it; there was too much pressure. I am more comfortable writing I guess. Do you need my email address? Thanks again.

Pam

Hi Norma,

Thanks for taking the time to write.  I understand completely the crying, and the void inside of us that is missing.  I know it takes time to begin healing from this so whenever you feel like sharing, I'll be here to listen.

It was not supposed to be like this

In 2014 I met the most amazing man ever. We were both in our very early 20s and were looking for different things at the time. We ceased communication for roughly 6 months. During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
