Hi - I’m a widow living in the UK. I lost my beloved husband to cancer nearly nine years ago but it still feels painful to think about him. After he died my world fell apart. We never had children together so the bond between us was very strong. One day, when I was feeling particularly low, I decided to write about it and somehow this helped me. I kept writing and eventually the idea of writing a book came to me. Eventually I self-published my first novel which follows the journey of a grieving widow who is trying to rebuild her life. The woman is essentially me, although most of what happens to her is fiction. It took two years to write and after typing the last sentence, I sat back in my chair, amazed at what I'd done. I also realised that I had found a sense of peace and contentment. The process of writing about my experience had healed me. People who have read my book say it has also helped them. It's on Amazon if anyone is interested. Search books Black to White by Sam Hayward and you should find it.

Hi Sam,

My name is David.

I'm new to this site. I'm so sorry for the loss of your dear husband; we do whatever we can find to ease the pain.  I too have found that journaling  helps; it can be very cathartic.

It is amazing that you have been able to channel the negative energy into something positive and constructive. And get a good knowing that your book may help others in distress.

Keep up your good work Sam

Best wishes,

David

"Kali I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Grief is hard enough, but going through it secretly, all the while having to continue showing up for your kids, is just brutal. Perhaps your friend was careful to hide your conversations behind…"

It was not supposed to be like this

In 2014 I met the most amazing man ever. We were both in our very early 20s and were looking for different things at the time. We ceased communication for roughly 6 months. During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
