I lost my husband 2 weeks after our 27th anniv. We didn't have even a year betw. his diagnosis of cancer and his death. He made sure, in the time he did have, that the house was fixed up so that I wouldn't have to worry about it. Less than 8 months after he died we had a hail storm that damaged the house and the truck. House needed new roofing and a wall to be re-sided. I had to deal with a lackadaisical insurance; ended up contacting the state insurance commission because I was getting nowhere. It took 9 months to resolve! This was something I figure my husband would've had everything taken care of in 2 months were he still around. It felt like I was having insult added to injury since his death was still so fresh in my mind. I was over-whelmed by everything, but tried to keep plugging along. I've had to replace items that, were he still alive, he would've repaired. I'm lucky, in that, I have a 27 yr old son, who listened when his father told him how to repair things. He has saved me many a time, but I don't want him to use all his free time taking care of the house, even if he does live here.
It's all very difficult getting used to the "new norm". As much as I miss him just being here, I really miss all the things he'd do around here. Our weekends always included a trip or two to a hardware store.
At least my kids are out of college...But I am stuck with a hyper-active Irish Setter who knocks me over everytime he comes near.....Things do improve Ted...give it time...the hole in your middle slowly fills in...

Addie replied to Kali's discussion It was not supposed to be like this in the group Being the Other Woman/Other Man
"Kali I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Grief is hard enough, but going through it secretly, all the while having to continue showing up for your kids, is just brutal. Perhaps your friend was careful to hide your conversations behind…"

It was not supposed to be like this

In 2014 I met the most amazing man ever. We were both in our very early 20s and were looking for different things at the time. We ceased communication for roughly 6 months. During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
