About Me:
Mid 40s. Married 6 years. No kids (not by choice, just not meant to be). Both parents still alive. Oldest, and now, only child in the immediate family. Work in healthcare.
About my Loss:
My younger brother, Keith, died on July 14, 2014 at age of 40. He left behind his wife of 12 years, 2 daughters ages 7 and 8, and a 3rd daughter he never met (though did get to see ultrasound image of) who was born Nov 9, 2014. He also left my parents and I behind. He helped me move to another state in June 17-19. Got what seemed like a cold a week later. On July 7 he went to doctor for antibiotics. He did a chest xray. It showed a huge mass in his chest. Keith was admitted to hospital that monday night. Next day had biopsy, and wednesday we got diagnosis - testicular cancer, VERY advanced, but still with 90%+ cure rate they said. On Thursday he got first dose of chemo. On friday, he coded first time and was put on vent. He started dialysis and was maxed on life support, literally nothing more they could do by saturday night. He was the most critically ill patient I have ever seen. The tumors were everywhere, including wrapped around his aorta and trachea. No medical care could support him through it. He coded again and died on monday, a week after mass was first found. It was such a traumatic week for me and my family. And I am finding it hard to deal with the ongoing grief, the PTSD, the complexity of defining a relationship with his wife and kids without him.

Addie replied to Kali's discussion It was not supposed to be like this in the group Being the Other Woman/Other Man
"Kali I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Grief is hard enough, but going through it secretly, all the while having to continue showing up for your kids, is just brutal. Perhaps your friend was careful to hide your conversations behind…"

It was not supposed to be like this

In 2014 I met the most amazing man ever. We were both in our very early 20s and were looking for different things at the time. We ceased communication for roughly 6 months. During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
