Profile Information

About Me:
I am a semi- retired teacher with one son and two granddaughters. My son is engaged to a lady who has 5 children; so I will soon have 7 grandchildren. I am young at heart and love any activity that stimulates creativity. I love God, my family, and my friends. This is what has kept me going since my loss.
About my Loss:
I was married to my childhood sweetheart. We started dating when we were freshmen in high school. We married in the summer before my junior year in college. We were married almost 41 years. My husband died while waiting for a liver transplant in Vanderbilt rehabilitation. part of his colon died, and he developed an infection. I was so shocked because I always expected him to get a transplant. He had always been so strong and healthy. He didn't drink or smoke. He died June 11, 2011. I thought I would never pass the year mark, but now I am starting on the second year, and it seems even harder. Reality has set in that I will never get him back.
Are You a Service Provider? If Yes, please tell us about your service.
I am a semi- retired teacher. I taught in the Trigg County school System for 28 years. Toward the end of my retirement, I became specialized in teaching writing. Writing is a big part of Kentucky's assessment. Since I have retired, I have been working in the Trigg County and Christian school systems to teach the children how to write. This year I will be working with k-3 to help them develop writing pieces for their assessment portfolio. I love working with children. It keeps me grounded and young.

Addie replied to Kali's discussion It was not supposed to be like this in the group Being the Other Woman/Other Man
"Kali I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Grief is hard enough, but going through it secretly, all the while having to continue showing up for your kids, is just brutal. Perhaps your friend was careful to hide your conversations behind…"

It was not supposed to be like this

In 2014 I met the most amazing man ever. We were both in our very early 20s and were looking for different things at the time. We ceased communication for roughly 6 months. During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
