About Me:
I'm currently writing my third book, "FINAL TRIBUTES, Incredible Ways Americans are Remembering our Fallen Heroes". It's a book to memorialize all of our troops who have died in Iraq & Afghanistan. My first book, "CRUMBLED OAK LEAF - Words of Grief and Hope" is a tribute to my brother, Jerry. Through my letters and poems to him, after he died, you're able to follow my journey of exploration. I've given it to friends who've lost loved ones and they can truly relate to the feelings. My gift has always been my ability to tell my friends, through my letters, etc., how sorry I am for their loss. I feel tremendous empathy for people and they feel that and are comforted by it.

I also blog on the Oswego Patch about patriotic subjects and what America means to me. I've created a number of community-wide projects, the most notable of which was the "911 Empty Shoe Memorial" where 2,996 pairs of shoes were set out lining 19 city blocks in downtown Oswego, Illinois. Several thousand people attended and it helped so many people find a place to mourn and heal on the tenth anniversary of 911.

The Oswego Patch honored me as the 2011 Person of the Year for my many community efforts. I'm privileged to live in a town where there are so many who support the things we all believe are important.
About my Loss:
Nine years ago my brother Jerry drove his car through a building while suffering a psychotic episode. He lived for forty-one days before he died. After that the depth of my grief was incredible. I felt so alone and that my friends were only supportive for the first several weeks, and then, it was business as usual!

I've written a book on my personal journey of grief and hope that offers people a glimpse into my own very personal pain following the tragic loss of my favorite brother. It not only benefits those who've suffered a loss, but even more importantly, it helps others understand how long and deep grief really lasts. Everyone who has read it has told me that it's really taught them to understand more fully when someone they know suffers a loss.

Speed Weasel commented on Speed Weasel's blog post A Return to GriefShare and a Crisis of Identity
"GriefShare is a church based support group. They do have meetings online, but the usual format is a group of people experiencing a loss getting together weekly to watch videos (13 weeks total) about grief and loss. After the video, we talk about the…"
