About Me:
Married, mother of 2 children. Daughter age 14 and son age 11. 3 half sisters (same mother, different father)
About my Loss:
I lost my mother to cancer when I was 13. However, I lost my dad suddenly on 6/28/13. Since my mom died, it was just me and him. We were extremely close and he was very close to my kids too. I thought losing my mom was hard, this is way worse. We were on vacation in Florida. My husband and I had rented a condo and we invited his mother and my father to join us. We all drove down (we're from WI). On our last full day there, my son, who was sharing a room with grandpa, woke up to find that grandpa wasn't breathing or waking up. My daughter ran in there next. They ran to our room, my husband called 911 and I ran to my dad. He looked like he was sleeping. I shook him but it was clear he was gone. I couldn't believe my eyes! I just started screaming and the nightmare began, my life changed forever. The fire dept came but nothing could be done. Shortly thereafter the ME came to take him. My husband spared me from watching that. They did not do an autopsy but ruled it was his heart. He had had a history of heart problems (bypass, valve replacement and irregular heartbeat). However, he was fine! He was not sick at all and everyone always commented on how he looked and acted much younger than his age. I truly expected him to live many more years. We were on the beach the day before, he grilled hamburgers and watched a movie with my kids the night before. He even let me and my husband into the condo after midnight when we had forgotten our keys. It was only a few hours after that he was gone. I still can't believe it. The drive back home was miserable because he should have been there. He picked my kids up from school everyday so I saw him everyday when I came home from work. I just can't imagine my life without him and don't want to. It's been so hard, I miss him soooooo much. He was the best father and grandpa anyone could ever ask for.

Addie replied to Kali's discussion It was not supposed to be like this in the group Being the Other Woman/Other Man
"Kali I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Grief is hard enough, but going through it secretly, all the while having to continue showing up for your kids, is just brutal. Perhaps your friend was careful to hide your conversations behind…"

It was not supposed to be like this

In 2014 I met the most amazing man ever. We were both in our very early 20s and were looking for different things at the time. We ceased communication for roughly 6 months. During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
