- Our only child Jason, 27, died at home on 1/3/13 of a heroin overdose. He died around 8:00 pm. He was getting ready to go out. When we found him he was blue. We did CPR immediately. Paramedics worked a long time, but they declared him dead.

My Fathers Loss

Traumatic loss of an only child
I started this group so that people who have lost their only child or the only child that remained, as in my case, could come together because I believe people that did have a child or children who now have none have special issues.
Loss of a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide
If you have lost a loved one to alcohol, substance abuse or suicide please share your story or feelings here. Share the love and beauty of the one you lost. Losing someone any of these ways is not natural and can be hard to understand and ask why? I lost my Mother to an overdose 9 years ago. She also suffered from major depression. I am so sorry for your loss. I also lost my only child on Dec 1, 2012 in a tragic car accident. It is heart breaking. My son struggling with prescription drug dependence for complications of Crohn's Disease. He was on oxy IR, a very low dose but eventually the drugs starting taking over. Along with being sick, he had to deal with that dark road. I have many times gone to see if he was still breathing. Before his death he had managed with the help of a doctor, to get off those killer pills (which act very much like heroin). Then after such struggle and success, he was taken in an instant. I wish there was something to make it easier for you but just know that you are not alone and we are hear to talk whenever you need to. Hugs. Connie
