H.U.G.S. Hearts United Gather Strength

This group is an extension of my Yahoo group with the same name. I started it soon after my dad passed away. Sharing our experiences lets us know that we are not alone. Grief is a process and we go through it in our own way and in our own time. The motto of HUGS is "We don't have to get OVER it, but sometimes we need help getting ON with it." There are lots of groups on the Internet and even on this site but it's my hope that you will find this one to be both a healing and a growing experience.…See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I've been writing since probably the sixth grade. I entered a public speaking contest. I was so nervous I threw up but ended up taking first place. It made me feel something inside when I saw how proud my parents were of me. So I joined the forensics team and kept writing speeches and winning or at least placing in competitions. My proudest speech to date was in high school. I heard an announcement over the intercom about a contest "Voice of Democracy". It was the last day to enter. My civics teacher Mr. Bronner; encouraged me to enter. So after class I stood at my locker and in 10 minutes wrote a speech about my pride in country and took it to the radio station to record. That speech took first place in my district and went on to take second in the entire state of Virginia.

I don't know what it is about writing. It's therapeutic, relaxing, but most of all I think it allows my voice to be heard. I've never much for being outspoken but when I write whether it's a poem or a story the words just flow out from my heart and soul and it seems to connect with people.

I haven't lived the average life. I think life experiences help fuel the creative passion. I've experienced things that most people only read about or hope doesn't ever happen to them. From all the ashes I've managed to rise up, dust off and keep moving forward. People say I'm strong when in fact the truth is, what choice do I have?

I am not vain about my writing. I know very well that whatever talents that lie inside come from my Heavenly Father and I am truly grateful to finally be able to use those talents and to know what path I'm suppose to be on in this life.

Well, that's the stuff of my soul I suppose. If you'd like to know the basics about me... I'm divorced, no children unless you count my fur-baby. Her name is Sandy; a pit bull. Life with her is definitely anything but boring! I'm also a Nanny and I am a very creative person. I use some of that creativity for a small printing business I am nurturing called Painted Daisy Printing. You can find it on Facebook.

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and for past and future purchases. If I have touched your heart even a little then I feel successful.
About my Loss:
I lost my dad in 2005. One day I sat down and just typed out in a search engine... "I Miss My Daddy", hoping for any kind of help to deal with my grief. Nothing came back. It was then that I reached out to others by starting my own group for those who had lost their dads on Yahoo now called H.U.G.S. (Hearts United Gather Strength) and a year after he passed I started writing a book that is now on Amazon. I teach others while teaching myself how to use their grief to move forward and even grow from it.

Addie replied to Kali's discussion It was not supposed to be like this in the group Being the Other Woman/Other Man
"Kali I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Grief is hard enough, but going through it secretly, all the while having to continue showing up for your kids, is just brutal. Perhaps your friend was careful to hide your conversations behind…"

It was not supposed to be like this

In 2014 I met the most amazing man ever. We were both in our very early 20s and were looking for different things at the time. We ceased communication for roughly 6 months. During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
