* it's important that I put this disclaimer here, sorry. I volunteer as a Peer Mentor with TAPS, I do not sit on their board or am paid by them for anything. I just strongly believe in what they do. My family would of been lost without their help *

TAPS - has several events through out the year. From regional to death and survivor relationship (widows, parents, children etc) specific events. They also have a National gathering (the National Gala is the only one that is not always free of charge as it is the major fundraiser event) once a year in DC over Memorial Day weekend.

They offer several free resources (books, DVD's for kids etc) as well as a 24/7 hotline where you can just talk, get help etc.

In this group I will try to keep everyone updated on when and where events are happening. I look forward to meeting fellow Gold Star family members or friends of our wonderful men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice.

It is also to make sure you understand that TAPS is not just for those who have been K.I.A but anyone who has served in the military no matter what the cause of death.

"Kali I’m so so sorry you are going through this. Grief is hard enough, but going through it secretly, all the while having to continue showing up for your kids, is just brutal. Perhaps your friend was careful to hide your conversations behind…"

During which time, he completed basic training and joined the Air Force. By the time we reconnected he was already at his first duty station.. 8 hours away.We decided we wanted to continue our relationship and proceeded to cultivate a deeply emotional connection. Regular calls and video chats, visits while he was home on…See More
