Slipping Backward

I am relatively new to this site, but have been comforted by reading the many posts. My husband has been gone for 9 months now, and we were married 55 years this coming month. I thought I was making some progress, but now feel I am slipping back into despair. I wake up in the morning to this ache and loneliness.
I see the day before me, and I close my eyes and try to go back to sleep. I like the night since the darkness seems to allow me to hide from the world.
I have started avoiding friends and want to be alone, but then when I am alone I feel horrible and cry.
My nightly ritual is to ask the Lord to take me home. I ask my husband to wait for me, and I feel I am being obsessed with leaving this hell and the pain that is a constant now in my life.
Every day I try to plan to do something so I will not go crazy thinking of how much I miss my husband. I keep wondering why the last years of my life have to end with this despair and longing. I ask why we cannot be allowed to leave the world together when we have spent 55 years as one. I have led a happy, fulfilling life, but now would like to end it without this constant pain.
I went to a grief group which has the title "from pain to joy". I thought this was so ridiculous since I know JOY is NOT something I will feel again until I am reunited with my love.

According to the Bible (not everyone believes in the Bible and that is fine) one day the earth will be a paradise. You might recall that the Lord's Prayer addresses this when Jesus told us to pray for

1) God's Kingdom to COME
2) God's will to be done on EARTH

Also, it is interesting that there are 9 resurrections in the Bible. Of those 9 only 1 went to heaven!!! And that was Jesus. The other 8 kept living right here on the earth.

Jesus himself said that "all those in the memorial tombs" will come back to life. Husbands and wives will be reunited right here on earth. Paradise in God's Kingdom when his will is being done.

This accurate knowledge of the scriptures is very comforting to me.

Also, the Bible speaks of only a small select group of people who do go to heaven. They will be as Angels. Angels evidently have never married, so the small select group of people who go to heaven will not marry either.

What do those individuals do? The Bible says that they will RULE AS KINGS AND PRIESTS over the people living on paradise earth.

I realize that many people don't see the Bible as credible and that is fine...no further discussion is necessary.

But for those of us who do...the teachings we find in it can be very comforting.

Where does it say in the bible that husbands and wives will be reunited here on earth?

The Bible is full of reference about the earth, and mankind living on it forever.

Jesus himself promised this:

Matthew 5:5 — “Happy are the mild-tempered, since they will inherit the earth.

And Jesus was really just quoting scripture

Psalms 37:11 — But the meek will possess the earth, And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

Isaiah 45:18 — For this is what The LORD says, The Creator of the heavens, the true God, The One who formed the earth, its Maker who firmly established it, Who did not create it simply for nothing, but formed it to be inhabited: “I am the LORD, and there is no one else.

So when we take into account that 8 resurrections occurred in the Bible and every one of them were a coming back to life right here on the earth, it becomes evident that we are meant to live here.

And of course God Is LOVE....he intends for families to be together forever.

Of course I understand that there are many people who have different views, but this scriptural view brings me comfort when I see most people struggling to find that comfort. It doesn't take our pain away, but the comfort provided helps us by giving us hope. And hope gives us a future to look forward to. This helps me considerably.

It seems that people forget that none of us knows the mind of God! We can only guess at what is to come. I pray directly to God and do not look at the bible as verbatim. I believe there are many morality stories for us to read and learn from in life. Man cannot conceive of understanding the mind of God, so we will have to wait until our time comes. We will then have the answers. In the meantime, let's not try to guess, but, as you say, be comforted that God is with us in our time of grief.

You are correct, none of us can know the mind of God. But the Bible stills gives us a clear picture of what he thinks.

1 Corinthians 2:16 — For “who has come to know the mind of GOD, so that he may instruct him?” But we do have the mind of Christ.

Having the mind of Christ as revealed in the Scriptures gives a pretty clear picture of Gods purpose.

The Bible also gives us what we need...

2 Timothy 3:16 — All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,

So personally I don't believe that we can only guess about these things. I believe that the Bible gives us everything we need to know.

Dennis, Your correct, the bible gives us everything we need to know.  Like it says there will be dwelling places and I can have my beautiful husband in my dwelling place--I felt comfort when my counsler told me this and I found it in the bible.  It will be greater than marriage together.  And from Isaiah "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD".  We will never totally imagine how much greater are his ways and how wonderful his plans for us are.
